On Perseverance . . .

Rivers know this: there is no hurry.

We shall get there some day.

Let us not become weary in doing good,

for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

~ Galatians 6:9

As we begin week #3, classes are in full swing and one’s schedule begins to take shape in a more predictable way. But it can also feel as though the whole term is still stretching out before you. How will you finish all those papers and projects? When will you get all that reading done? Will it be possible to find time to hang out with old friends or meet new ones? Or maybe this term is lighter for you and the challenge is figuring out how to best use the spare time you DO have to explore new hobbies, service opportunities and perhaps parts of Eugene or Oregon that you haven’t yet ventured out to see yet. In either case, it is easy to feel like there is a clock ticking as the term quickly begins to move along. I encourage you to take a deep breath and remember that while it is important to use the time you have wisely, this educational journey, as well as the larger journey of life, is just that – a journey. This part of the path is important, but it is one part of a larger whole. So don’t put yourself under too much stress – remember to enjoy what you are learning, who you are meeting, the challenges you are facing. Take a moment to help someone else to get some perspective on what is happening in your own life. Remember to get outside and breathe in the amazing fall weather (especially since it still isn’t raining?!?!). And if you begin to feel a little stressed, stop and take a minute to remember that it will all get done, one step at a time. And most especially remember you aren’t in this alone – you are loved by God and we are praying for you every day!
